ERA provided structural engineering services for an innovative adaptive reuse project in White Bear Lake, MN, transforming a former Kmart site into a vibrant retail complex.

The project involved selective demolition of 75% of the existing structure to accommodate a new 61,000 sf Cub Foods store with a 15,000 sf Wine & Spirits shop while converting the remaining portion into a Planet Fitness facility. ERA’s comprehensive structural solutions addressed multiple technical challenges, including roof joist replacement to accommodate new parapet heights and integration of modern amenities. The project showcases ERA’s expertise in phased redevelopment, with our team later engineering an additional outlot building on the same site. Our structural design supported contemporary features, including larger front windows, enhanced food service areas, and polished concrete floors, while also incorporating site-wide stormwater management improvements.
