ERA provided structural engineering services for a unique two-level fire station integrated within a parking ramp at downtown St. Paul’s Department of Human Services building.

The design efficiently organizes essential firefighting functions across two floors: the first level houses the apparatus floor with four overhead doors, watch room, training facilities, workout room, and kitchen/living areas, while the second floor accommodates offices and individual bedrooms for on-duty personnel. Special structural considerations included support for a two-story hose tower with electric hoists and an Air Handling Unit located on the third floor. This project demonstrates ERA’s expertise in creating specialized emergency service facilities within existing structures, requiring careful attention to both operational requirements and structural integration.
