ERA provided structural engineering services for the Bowerman Power LFG project in Irvine, CA, a state-of-the-art landfill gas-to-energy facility at one of the largest landfills in the United States.

This 20-megawatt facility, situated on a 2.6-acre site, captures methane gas to fuel seven generators. Located in a seismically active region (Seismic Design Category D), ERA’s scope included designing foundations for generators and process equipment, anchorage systems, pre-manufactured building foundations, and support structures for process equipment and piping. A notable feature is the pipe bridge carrying 30″ diameter exhaust pipes to the plume tower. This project, ranking among the top ten landfill gas-to-energy projects in the U.S., delivers renewable electricity to the City of Anaheim Public Utilities. It produces 160,000 megawatt hours annually, serving 14,700 homes and offsetting 86,106 tons of greenhouse gas emissions. ERA’s structural solutions were crucial in creating a facility that combines environmental sustainability with seismic resilience.
