ERA served as the structural engineer of record for the original $104 million Target Center arena in downtown Minneapolis, as well as its recent $97 million renovation.

The original facility, completed in 1990, features one of only two moveable arena floors in the United States – an innovative system that can be fully raised or lowered in just 25 minutes to optimize sight lines for different events, from basketball to hockey. The comprehensive renovation project showcased ERA’s expertise in modernizing large-scale entertainment venues while maintaining operational capabilities. ERA’s structural engineering solutions supported major improvements including a new green roof, enhanced seating and amenities, and scoreboard upgrades. ERA continues to provide ongoing structural engineering services, analyzing roof truss systems to accommodate rigging loads for diverse entertainment productions, ensuring safe and flexible venue operations. This sustained partnership demonstrates ERA’s ability to not only design complex new structures but also successfully maintain and revitalize existing facilities to meet evolving entertainment industry demands.
