ERA provided structural engineering services for the renovation of Mayo Clinic Square, formerly Block E, in downtown Minneapolis, MN.

This $50 million transformation, completed in 2015, converted the historic entertainment complex into a modern sports medicine and professional basketball facility, now home to the practice facilities and front offices of both the Minnesota Timberwolves (NBA) and Minnesota Lynx (WNBA), along with a Mayo Clinic sports medicine center. The structural design features steel framing supporting new canopies and overhangs around the building’s perimeter, including squared-off corners at two prominent entries. ERA engineered the support for three stories of projecting perforated panels and corner display boards, anchoring them to the existing structure. A significant interior modification created a dramatic two-story entry and central corridor between Hennepin and First Avenues, requiring careful structural coordination to modify existing floor structures. The facility connects to the Target Center via the Minneapolis Skyway System, providing convenient access for athletes and medical staff.
