ERA provided structural engineering services for the expansion of Chiricahua Travel Plaza, an approximately 15,000 sf travel center in Akela Flats, NM.

The project expanded and connected to an existing tribal retail and café building with approximately 10,000 sf of new construction, creating a larger travel center with retail and dining areas, commercial shower suites, laundry facilities, and dedicated spaces for truck drivers and travelers. The new single-story structure utilizes steel roof deck on open-web steel joists spanning to exterior masonry walls and includes a steel-framed glass light tower at the main building. ERA’s scope also included structural design for new passenger vehicle and commercial truck fueling canopies, cooler and freezer slab depressions, and site light pole foundations.
