ERA was the Structural Engineer of Record for the phased design and construction of the Center for Magnetic Resonance Research (CMRR) Renovation and Expansion at the University of Minnesota’s Minneapolis campus.

This project is a key component of the research park located in the emerging East Gateway District, representing the largest University expansion since the development of the West Bank Campus. The expansion adds approximately 75,000 sf of space, including research labs, offices, support spaces, and collaborative teaming areas. A notable feature of the project is the addition of skyways connecting the CMRR to the adjacent McGuire Translational Research Facility / Lions Research Building to the west and the Medical Biosciences Building to the east, enhancing connectivity within the research complex. This $53.2 million project not only increases the CMRR’s capacity but also strengthens its role in the University’s expanding research infrastructure. ERA’s involvement in the structural design contributed to creating a facility that supports advanced magnetic resonance research while integrating seamlessly with the existing campus architecture.
