ERA provided structural engineering services for the Walnut Creek Life Time, a luxury health club and fitness center.

This 75,000 sf facility, situated on a very tight site, features a two-story superstructure with a 20,000 sf rooftop pool deck, bar, and amenity space, plus one subterranean level. The structural design incorporates a composite steel superstructure with steel eccentric braced frames and trusses, supported by steel pipe pile foundations. Given the project’s location in Seismic Design Category “D”, the design prioritizes seismic resilience through steel special moment frames and special reinforced concrete shear walls. These elements ensure the building’s ability to withstand significant seismic events while maintaining its architectural integrity. The rooftop amenities presented unique structural challenges, successfully addressed through careful engineering and integration with the overall design. This project demonstrates ERA’s expertise in designing complex, multi-use structures in seismically active regions and constrained urban sites.
