ERA was the structural engineer of record for renovation and addition to the existing Achieve Language Academy.

The project included approximately 11,400 sf of new office, lobby, commons, and classroom space, with the lobby addition designed as a storm shelter meeting ICC 500 requirements. Renovations of the existing building included updating classroom, kitchen, cafeteria, and support spaces. The single-level addition utilized a hybrid structural system, with roof framing consisting of metal deck and open web steel joists supported by precast concrete bearing walls and steel beams and columns. For the storm shelter, ERA also designed a metal deck and open-web steel joist roof with appropriate deck gauge and joist spacing to meet ICC 500 requirements (the first “bare metal deck storm shelter” we ever completed). This project demonstrates ERA’s expertise in educational facility design, particularly in integrating new construction with existing buildings while incorporating critical safety features for school occupants.
